The Southern Highlands Kennel & Obedience Club Inc. is a non-profit organisation that is staffed by volunteers. All trainers and helpers work for the Club because of their love of dogs and their desire to help other doggie people with their dogs.
The history of the Club goes back to 1951 when it started with 31 members.
For their first show in 1952, the club engaged 2 judges – a far cry from today’s shows when we have 26 judges! The dog show was originally held in conjunction with Moss Vale’s A.H. & I. Show, in the days when NSW Government Railways put on extra carriages to bring handlers and their dogs from Sydney for the event.
The Club began to lose members however and, by 1977, had only 6 members. Fortunately, however, more dog enthusiasts moved into the district and, in 1984, the Club was formalised as the Southern Highlands Kennel and Obedience Club Inc.
